Classic & Sports Car Club awards 2007
‘Best club website (for clubs with fewer than 5000 members)’
Our winner has also been thoroughly overhauled this year, and is packed with info, including event reports, background on the club and a gallery of members’ cars. And once you access the members’ area, there’s pretty much everything you could want to know about buying one of its featured models – including handy ‘points to remember’ lists. If you’re after one of Sweden’s finest, you should check out the Volvo Enthusiasts’ Club website, at www.volvoenthusiastsclub.co.uk’
‘Best club run/rally’
This category was dominated by groups with a sense of adventure this year, such as the Austin Champ Owners’ Club, which organised a tour of the remaining British Forces Group bases in Germany, meeting up with owners on the continent. We also liked the Volvo Enthusiasts’ Club’s Reliability Challenge, our runner-up, in which members had to visit all the capitals on mainland Britain within 48 hours (with a bonus if they went to Belfast). More than 50 did it (from a 1960 PV444 to a new XC90), in August and September – and, being Volvos, with no breakdowns.
Edited highlights from Simon Taylor’s speech from the NEC awards ceremony Simon is a former editor of Autosport magazine, a former chairman of Haymarket Publishing and a tv commentator who writes the Full Throttle column for Classic & Sportscar, plus running reports on his various cars.
